Autumn Colors week Day 3.....Leaves....

This morning I went for a walk down to the river.  To see what last night's storm had left in it's wake.

The trail was damp with rain and blanketed with leaves.

The river water was chilled scattered with leaves that were traveling slowly towards town.

And don't let those drops hovering on that leaf's under belly fool you.

Rains drops, you ask.

Nope.

It's melted snow flakes.

September sure has a cruel way of bidding ado.

I'm super happy to see October though.  It is my favorite month, after all.

Not because of the colors, pumpkins, warm clothes, and nightly fires in the stove, (all of which I look forward to very much)

But, because it was the first month to greet my sweet boy...... almost 5 years ago.

The boy with the orange hair.

I think that this is THE BEST season by far. Just right for the harvesting of produce and relationships. It's a much slower pace than that of the hustle and bustle of Summer. It's the time of the year that one can look back and see what has transpired over the Summer. Reaping the benefits of all of the hard work put into the land and sown. Sitting back and enjoying the changing of the leaves and the air....mmmm the crispness....the snapping of the apples when one bites into them. The wonderful smell of a wood fire. Putting on a kettle of water, having a cuppa something and sitting in front of that fire...the re-kindling of relationships with a visit with a friend or a loved one or just a cozy, quiet snuggle....mmmm, nice. The smells of something heavenly baking or cooking. It's now....cool enough now to do this and not melt yourself out of the house. Perhaps a fresh pot of Spaghetti sauce, made with the fruits of your Summer labor....simmering on the wood stove...mmmm. AGGHHH the sounds and smells of Fall....wonderful.

Gorgeous pictures, Julia! Love them.

October is certainly my favorite month of all, also!

10 years ago, I married my husband in October and began creating a wonderful life full of baby girls! ;)

Ah, snow!! Much as I love it, I'm not ready for snow yet. The speckled leaves are just beautiful, though. And floating on the water? I'm definitely ready for more of that!

Gorgeous pictures Jules! We are an October family as well. The boys each celebrate a birthday that month, and my husband and have an anniversary as well.

I am loving following you through Autumn. Just gorgeous

beautiful pictures...I love the picture of the leaf floating in water...and snow, that I'll be happy to see pictures of for a while before I experience it myself. It's not that I don't like snow, but we really haven't had autumn yet...at least not here.

There's nothing like a ADK autumn. Sigh. Yellow aspens just don't appease my heart.
