Capability Lessons .....

My father is the MOST handy man that I know ( ASIDE from my handy Husband that is!)  You name it..... Carpentry, plumbing, excavating, roofing, construction, painting, etc. He can do it all, and do it well (I might add)

Eben is no exception to this trait of tradesmen.

Handy-ness is in his genes.

On the eve of his birthday, My Dad presented Eben with the gift that outshone every other gift....

in ALL the land.

"The BEST BIRF-DAY PRESENT EVER Mommy!"

An original Handy Andy tool chest

Complete with a rusted gnarly saw, a hammer, and many other tools that are banned from today's toy shelves.

Toys and tools that are original and common to a generation of boys that have now grown into MEN.

Capable MEN.

*****************************WARNING*****************************
Alarm and shock are sure to run through even the most liberal of parents looking at the following photos, I'm sure.
 *****************************************************************************

After watching patiently as their Poppy demonstrated the finer points of technique.

It was time for return demonstration.

And the birthday kid and his cousin were NOT about to disappoint him.

Their Poppy- who knew exactly what his grandsons would love.

Because he, himself is re-living his own boy-hood, seeing it through the eyes of his two Apprentices.

I tell you, these boys and their Poppy are a match made in Heaven.

Tools, sharp saws, REAL metal.  Not even a truck full of video games and Bakugans can top that.

As much worry as it causes me to know that he is THAT interested in tools, I can't deny the obvious.  It is the results of diluted testosterone that has been passed down through the generations.

Capability that is seeping into our boys.... as if through osmosis.

And I am the lucky one; to be a witness to the light bulbs that are flickering every second of the day.

It saddens me that those days are gone for most kids. Our school recently removed the work bench from the pre-k room. So sad.

I love how all the tools are blue. Most of the blacksmiths I know all mark their tools in a similar manner - that why they know whose are whose at the end of the day.

Lucky boy and lucky Poppy.

He is definitely re~living his own childhood...NOT a chore for him...oh NO ...he's loving it ALL. He has THE BEST of both World's.

First,he had "his" girls. When I was pregnant with you and your sister, I asked him "Do you want us to have a boy or a girl?"
His reply..."Oh...I'd love a little girl." Wasn't I nice,I gave him not only one but...two... of his choice? And now...he {we} have been blessed,by you and your sister....with not only one but... two wonderful boys....GRAND~SONS! And that they are.
Thank you for our wonderful gifts.
Love, Momma and Dad
