Alternating between our THREE beds....
Our nice big cozy bed.
Our bathtub.
And our bathroom floor.
Stomach turning; head throbbing; body aching illness. It hit us like a ton of bricks.
Flu.
The only good thing about the day was the package that I got to open. I had worked at the hospital on Saturday and when I arrived home there was a package laying on the top of my mailbox...wrapped in a plastic bag, I knew it was the one that I had been waiting for!
From my sweet friend Heather.
I wanted to open it right then and there, but I was exhausted from my 13 hour day. So I set it on my desk in anticipation of opening it in the morning.
In the morning, (once I could propel myself into my sewing room around the chaos which is our living room) I grabbed the package and a pair of scissors and retreated back to my big bed. I cut the tape holding the box closed and let it's contents slip out onto the comforter.
And then I let out my first "Yippee!" and "Oh My" and "Oooooooo!" of the day.
I read the sweet words of her card, written in such teeny handwriting. And nodded with every sentence. I feel the same way.
I was overwhelmed at her generosity.
Some beautiful lace work crochet doilies (which I had a plan for as soon as they fell on the bed).
A PILE of the most stunning yarn I have ever seen.
And by pile, I mean P-I-L-E.
300 yards of Kid Mohair in my most favorite shade of blue.
1000yards of the silky Merino in the prettiest shades....
of fall leaves
and lastly, 300 yards of Peruvian Alpaca in a color called Sea Grass....(although I would have named it HEAVEN.)
Really......It is the most luxurious yarn that I have ever put my hands on.
Heather!!! ... I will never be able to shop the yarn section of Walmart again.
You have spoiled me.
(you had better open that shop up again pronto!)
And then I curled up under my blankets with my gingerale and saltines and set about reading the book that she included as well.
I only had to get to page 15 to know that I was in for some good and heavy reading.
"Art is not just for oneself, not just a marker of one's own understanding. It is also a map for those who follow after us."
and
"The craft of questions, the craft of stories, the craft of the hands - all these are the making of something, and that something is soul. Anytime we feed soul, it guarantees increase."
It was just what I needed.
So thank you my sweet friend...your timing was impeccable.
